For ages, I set out to the world with the mindset that if you are going to do something, then do it right. This got triggered from a speech I heard from someone in my high school years. As someone who used to sleep a lot during speeches, I was lucky enough to have learnt something from a speech during a valedictory service.

I always thought to myself if I have to do something then I gotta do it right, that too, on the first trial. It just has to be perfect. Little did I know this mindset was toxic to me and it had stopped me from trying so many things I had interest in due to the fear I might get it wrong. It took a while for me to realize failing isn’t a bad thing, as that is actually a sign of learning. Getting something right isn’t learning, and as someone who claims to enjoy learning, then how can I shy away from the term “failure”

I guess this had to do a lot with the sitgmatization around the word failure, and many other words associated with it, such as “dumb, dull, when we hear the word failure.

Today, I choose to create a new understanding of the word failure in my mind and heart, and how I choose to approach life from now on.

What failure means Failure is a sign that you are starting something new. Failure is an opportunity to learn about yourself, where you are currently at, so assessing your strengths and weaknesses. Failure is a term attributed to an event.

Remember, that you cannot be a failure, nor are you a failure because humans are not an event but a being, an ever-changing organism that isn’t fixed but is ever changing.

Facts about humans The etymology of the word being means: to become. The word human-being is simply a species that is capable of becoming something.

This separates us from other animals, animals are as they are but You are more than that. You are capable of becoming something greater than what you are right now, as long as you work hard and put your mind to that version of you whom you want to become. You will get there eventually, where now or later, you have to become greater than what you are right now, because by nature that is who we are.

Do not let perfectionism stop you from being great, failure is an event to remember and you are not an event so you failing shouldn’t stop you from becoming greater than you can be. It’s okay to be average, in your first trial, you will get better the more you indulge in the progress with time, nevertheless no matter how skilled you are, you will still make mistakes, because you are human and that’s a necessary quality in being a human.

Wish you the best in your future endeavors, from your well wisher. :)
